Welcome
Formed in the early 1980's by a group of dedicated Longbow enthusiasts, who's goal was the use, enjoyment and tradition of the longbow.
This has not changed since those early years and today the R.M.L.A. still promotes the use of the longbow in all events. Most notably the "North American Longbow Safari", which has been a premiere event held each year to bring longbow enthusiasts together in a rendezvous style shoot.

In Memoriam: Rainer Maria Oebels
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rainer Maria Oebels, a long-standing board member and passionate supporter of the Rocky Mountain Long Bow Association (RMLA). Rainer passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January 16, 2025, while hiking in the Canadian Rockies with his wife, Annemone.
Rainer was born in Dommershausen, Germany, and made Canada his home, where he became an integral part of our community. His contributions to the RMLA and the sport of longbow archery were immeasurable. As a dedicated board member and passionate archer, Rainer's expertise, kindness, and enthusiasm will be remembered by all who knew him. He touched many lives, and his legacy within the archery community and beyond will live on.
Rainer is survived by his large family and many friends in both Canada and Germany, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Rainer’s Life will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, full details can be found here. Family and friends unable to attend in person are invited to join the service via livestream.
